REDUCING YOUR RISK OF CANCER

Lifestyle Approaches:

  • Examine your breasts once a month
  • Avoid excessive alcohol consumption
  • Achieve and maintain a reasonable body weight
  • Stop smoking
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any of the early warning signs of cancer (see below)
  • Eat a high-fiber/low-fat diet
  • Avoid excessive sunlight

 Diagnostic Assessments:

  • Discuss cancer screening with your doctor
  • Have clinical breast exams regularly
  • Have a screening mammography regularly
  • Contact your doctor immediately if you notice any breast lumps or skin changes

  • A change in bowel habits or bladder function
  • Sores that do not heal
  • Unusual bleeding or discharge
  • Thickening or lump in breast or other parts of the body
  • Indigestion or difficulty swallowing
  • Recent change in a wart or mole
  • A nagging cough or hoarseness
