Health New England listed in Top 15
in the nation for member service.

Springfield, MA September 19, 2002-- Health New England is the only Massachusetts health plan named one of the top 15 accredited plans in the nation, in member satisfaction, according to a nationwide survey of satisfaction with commercial health plans. The survey, the Consumer Assessment of Health Plans (CAHPS® 2.0), was conducted on behalf of the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA), a national health plan accreditation organization.

In the survey, health plan members were asked about a variety of aspects of customer service. The results were included in NCQA’s annual report, “The State of Health Care Quality.” The Report is based on the Health Plan Employer Data and Information Set (HEDIS®), a measurement tool used by over 90% of American health plans to measure specific components of quality and service. The HEDIS® results are audited by Certified HEDIS® Compliance Auditors using NCQA-designed processes.

The NCQA State of Health Care Quality Report states that plans which are willing to publicly report on quality measures perform better than plans which do not publicly report. “Our voluntary participation in these measurement programs is one way for health plans like Health New England to contribute to the measurement and improvement of health care quality.” said Peter F. Straley, president & CEO of Health New England.

More information on the NCQA report is available on the NCQA Web site, http://www.ncqa.org.
