Changes to HNE's Member ID Cards

HNE is in the process of implementing changes to our Member ID Cards to enhance security and convenience for our members.

From May 2005 to May 2006, HNE will be changing member identification (ID) numbers. We are doing this for all members on their next renewal date. As a result, member ID numbers will no longer be the same as Social Security numbers. We have made this change to further protect member privacy. We will continue to use Social Security numbers for data retrieval purposes only.

In addition, the Member ID number will be at the top of newly issued Member ID Cards and the Group number will be below it. Previously, the Group number was listed first, followed by the Member ID number.

Finally, beginning in June 2005, all newly issued Member ID Cards will include the Express Scripts (ESI) numbers for the prescription benefit. As a result of this change, it will no longer be necessary for members to carry a separate ESI ID card anymore. The new cards will also list the member's copayment responsibility for Inpatient services and Ambulatory Surgery services, in addition to the other copayment amounts currently listed on the cards.

As we re-issue the Member ID Cards, we have instructed members to present their new card when they receive services. While we have taken steps to insure that there is no interruption in claims processing as a result of these changes, we would like to encourage you to update your records as soon as possible to reflect the new Member ID numbers.
