Coverage Exclusion

HNE does not seperately reimburse for blood or blood products, including the cost of donating blood for use during surgery or other medical procedures, in either an inpatient or outpatient setting. In most cases, the cost of blood or blood products is included in the payment that HNE makes to a facility or provider for a covered service. HNE and the provider usually agree to the payment amount in advance. Additional services (like donating and storing one's own blood for use during surgery) may not be part of this pre-arranged payment amount. Since HNE does not cover these services, the provider may bill the member for them.
